“It is what it is”, now that's something folks say,
which generally means – I'm not getting my way,
“We're NOT doing wants, today or tomorrow”,
“I'm sorry,” life says, “if this causes you sorrow!”
Then life hands us lemons, when we wanted a peach,
we're out digging ditches, when we wanted to teach!
We had a career that we'd dreamed of so long,
And suddenly our “net-worth” is less than a song!
Life's so treacherous to navigate, it's not what it seems.
Adulthood usually starts with the crushing of dreams.
One day we awake to a lifestyle we dread,
not sure how we got here, or what lies ahead!
We find ways of accepting, being passively cool,
when our bleak circumstances make us feel like a fool.
It's a way of just coping, with what life hands out,
Hey, it's better than moping, or copping a pout!
But it can mean something deeper, if we can allow,
Perhaps there's a God and He's guiding somehow!?
Perhaps we're not missing it, not bound to just coast,
perhaps He's just showing us what matters the most?
“It is what it is” – can be taken to mean,
that sin is still filthy, and holy, still clean,
no matter the twisting of fleshly intent,
while trying to justify each evil bent!
“It is what it is” means that prophecy's true,
and it WILL come to pass, though we can't want it to!
We can not expect, with our words or our will,
to derail His great plans – God is in control still!
God certainly knows what we need, what is best!
And Life isn't the grade, folks, it's only the test -
the boot camp, the training ground, for our eternal career,
so we'd best pay attention to what He's led us to, here.
Yes, we'd better get busy finding out what He wants!
We'd better stop bar-hopping, and find holier haunts!
We'd better stop all our pouting, trying to dictate God's biz...
Because, we should know folks, “It is what it is!”
