I want to say up front that I am not a "Women's Libber". I was. Back in the day, when I fought everything that moved, and my liberal education outweighed my scriptural understanding. Then I began to follow Jesus, and a bunch of His representatives convinced me that this "was not the way of love", and so I went to the other extreme, and put down all my weapons, and began the arduous task of attempting to force this very square peg into their nicely smoothed round hole!
Well, needless to point out, that was the failure of this century! But the reason that it did not work was NOT because I was stubborn and rebellious! It was because God did not co-operate with their design plans for me! He made me with corners! Sharp ones! I do believe in "Iron sharpening Iron". Which is a biblical concept referring to the fact that we all need accountability to one another (ideally intended to hold each other to the boundaries of the Word of God and the life of Faith - not to provide an excuse to meddle in, and control, one-another's private lives!) and it infers that we "rub off" each others "rough edges"! I have adhered to that concept faithfully, so is it my fault that my corners got sharper, as well as smoother? Is it my fault that they were unsuccessful at changing my shape? God simply did not co-operate in that. I am His workmanship, evidently, He liked it square!
But, though I have left both "boy-cotting" and "butt-kissing" at this place in life, I have come to a balance, in which I am thoroughly convinced that, "It was for freedom that Christ set us free!" And that I should, "therefore keep standing firm, not being subjected again to a yoke of slavery.", as Paul said! Paul! The same Paul who is perhaps the most misquoted man that ever lived, and the favorite mentor of the male-supremacists! I know that this freedom, which Christ purchased, did not only apply to the men-folk! And they all said, "Amen!" I can hear the shocked voices protesting that they have never decreed otherwise! Really? Yes. this is called deception, denial and many other d-words. But it is not the case. Women have been historically oppressed, and this problem has not been solved, nor even significantly addressed, by those claiming to be enlightened, either by political power or religious revelation!
If you have ever noticed, the government and other “powers that be” never get in a sweat or a hurry if you over pay your taxes, bills, etc., only if you owethem. So it is with human flesh, it only squawks when it is being under-cut! Which is why, I suspect, that men, in general, and women who have achieved the recognition which they crave, have no reason to be overly concerned with this issue, they are the one whose almighty bottoms are being served! And if that were the only consequence this writing would have no justifiable reason for existing.
However, we all seem to be missing the point that this unrighteous condition may be the underlying reason behind so very many ineffectual prayers! The rarely discussed, but overwhelmingly agonized over, sense of prayer-failure that seems to prevail in the organized church today, and even in many of the “un-church” or “home-church” or "other-church-improvement" movements. There is a glaring, if whispered, concern that Faith, too often, does not produce! And yet, it is mostly the women who come together to agonize over this tragedy! Of the men who come, most of them would be appalled at what I am suggesting, that it may have anything to do with the gross dishonoring of our women! Most find it a preposterous concept. Yet, I will keep saying this, your "tried and true" conclusions have not provided a successful solution. All the fasting, reviving, retreating, and other "works" can never make up for the repentance required to correct this doctrinal disobedience!
This evil, of white-male-supremacy, is so ingrained into the fiber of fallen humanity, I do not know what kind of grace it will take to dislodge it! You can take the smoker away from his cigarette, but it will be a much bigger job getting the cigarette out of the smoker! That is to say, by comparison, that we can make “adjustments”, that may adhere to the socially & politically correct lip service of our rather liberally bent culture, all we want, but that will never be an adequate substitute for God's original order and design! Like the medical profession, we can continue to "treat the symptoms while ignoring the root" of the problems! And in that same way, merely putting "bandaids" of "politically-correct" lip service on this cancer of Scriptural Misalignment, will never cure the prevailing ill of prejudice and doctrinal discrepancy!
We can give women more jobs that make them feel needed and important, but until the authority, to make the decisions that go with those jobs, is released to them, the women are just more highly flattered, and perhaps even better paid, slaves. Oh wait, the paid ones are called prostitutes, or would that be “professionals”. However, a slave "by any other name" works just as hard, and is oppressed just the same! We can pretend that women are “getting freer” in ministry, and in some places they truly are! But it is not around here, not over-all, not that I've encountered, as of yet! And we can continue to grant the the crumbs of respect that they dare to scrape for, but is that what God intended? Is that what He said?!
I have said it before and I will say it again, we women do not need to covet the man's position of power! God intended that we should have our own! We do not need to fight for their places of honor! God has decreed that we should have our own place of honor! They will not necessarily look or be the same, but we will know it, by the Spirit, to be the place of peace for us!
I am quite sure that one day He intends to “bring all to rights” concerning these things, but I, for one, think that it must happen before Christ can return, for it is written that unity must prevail before He returns! And I think that this can only happen if someone starts speaking out the truth concerning it! It is the truth that makes us free, not pretense and denial! So I ask again, "When it Comes to Freedom, Who Really Cares Enough to Change?!"
