"... not carnal (fleshly, contrived or created or utilized by the lower nature), but are of divine power, able to pull down and destroy spiritual strongholds." To that I must say, "Ten-Four, good buddy!" That is what the truckers used to say when they wanted to affirm something said over the CB-radio; it is 2 Corinthians 10:4 - to be exact!
In other words, we can never hope to achieve victory over our spiritual opposition by using "natural" means. We can not hope to accomplish eternal goals by only living this temporal, time bound existence. We must engage the rules of Spiritual Warfare, and use weapons appropriate and effective to that realm! Unseen enemies must be met by unseen forces - and these exist in our spiritual armory - explained to us in these epistles, or letters, to the Believers at Corinth.
Since I was a very small child I have tapped into the use of one of the most powerful weapons ever made available to mankind - Worship. Of course I did not know that what I was doing was spiritual warfare! I only knew that when I sang Hymns to the top of my lungs it made the searing pain of whatever had just happened to me go away! I only discovered early on, that it brought a comfort, and a sense of well-being, back to my tiny soul. It kept the fierce, terrifying darkness away.
I found out too, that reading the Words of Jesus, as I called Him then, just before I went to sleep seemed to keep the worst of the nightmares away. Little did I know that it was warding off destructive strongholds that would have rendered me extremely dysfunctional all the days of my life! Little did I know I was thwarting the enemy's warfare that had been sent to destroy me! I only knew that it helped me survive the daily onslaught of abuse, with which my tiny soul was too often barraged.
Now, having spent years studying the subject of Spiritual Warfare, under some learned men and women of God, I am well aware - and my awareness increases daily - that we are in a war of some magnitude. We are not here to simply live "the American Dream" - good thing too, since our governments of recent decades have managed to reduce it to nothing but a nightmare - but that we are in an eternal struggle between Good and Evil - of which we are principal players! And as such, we must be trained in the strategy and weaponry of warfare. The most supreme of which is, as Brother Oswald succinctly says, is Worship!
I am thankful to have stumbled onto that truth as a mere toddler, I am thankful that I held onto it out of sheer desire to survive! I am thankful that as a grown up I have been trained in the processes of preparing for the eternal war - that is constantly waged against us, especially we who believe! But even at that I have an annoying tendency to get so caught up in the emotional factors of everyday life with other humans on this planet that I forget I am in a war - until the enemy successfully uses one of those distractions to lob some major bomb in on my life! Then I stagger to my feet, nursing wounds, and find my weapons again! That rascal never rests! We can be sure that he does not forget that the war is on! And so neither can we afford this intermittent amnesia! We must heed the Scriptural admonition to stay on the alert! And we must keep our weapons at the ready at all time. Even in seasons of prosperity and building, we must, as Nehemiah's crew did, keep a trowel (or plow, or bushel basket) in one hand and a sword in the other! We must be ready to put on our Worship, or whip out our Two-Edged Sword! We can not afford to be caught slacking off. The time is urgent. Only complete idiots could possibly be unaware of this fact. No one remotely paying attention can truly believe that we are just "maintaining status quo", that "nothing has changed", and that we are not in the "last days", or at least "the beginning of the end"!
This is the time when the darkness has increased in its intensity, and the light will, by contrast, need to shine all the brighter! This is the time which separates the men from the boys and the courageous from the coward. This is the time when the battle cry goes forth suddenly, and often, and we must stay ready to rally to the aid of the fallen, ready to support and enable those engaged in pushing back the enemy. This is not a time for collective peace, our only source of peace will come through the Sar Shalom, the Prince of Peace, we can let His Shalom sustain us through the battle, but lasting Peace for all mankind will not come until we see Him take His rightful Throne in Jerusalem. This is the purpose of praying for the Peace of Jerusalem...to usher in the reign of Messiah, the Sar Shalom. It is to that end we pray, to that end we fight on! As the shofars sound for Yom Teruah let us rally to His side and may our resounding Worship drive back the enemy of the God-fearing!
Raise your voice, and raise your Sword!
May this Victory cry be heard! Holy! Mighty! Is the LORD!
Fight on! The King Wills It! Huzzah!
