The first decisions of a new lease on life had been made. Inwardly she cried out to God for strength and wisdom, hoping that if He answered she would be able to hear Him, and strong enough to do what He said, for a change! Of all the failures in her life, perhaps her failure to Him was the greatest. At that thought a feeling of shame threatened to engulf her, but she shook it off, the receptionist was answering her call, “would Wednesday at 11 suit?” She answered affirmatively, wrote the appointment time down on her pad of paper, and hung the phone up, feeling a bit encouraged.

Having the appointment secured felt like an accomplishment somehow. It gave her the courage to call her sisters after all, but not until she had found something to eat! An appetite? Good sign, the therapist would say. She hoped it was only that! She did not want to fall back into those “comfort food” habits. Losing weight at her age was anything but a picnic!

"Well”, she thought out loud to herself, “Up and at 'em old-girl! Tomorrow is here, and we need to decide some things!” Another feeling, not quite so familiar, flooded her being, and though it was not so familiar she hoped that it would become so. She breathed a silent prayer of heartfelt gratefulness to God. He had heard her desperate, almost subconscious prayer which she had breathed earlier, and, more amazingly, He had answered!

Hope flooded her being, bringing with it this time a kind of joy which she wasn't used to. She sat down again for a minute, basking in the light of His love, which was indescribable, and inescapable, wishing that she could just be in a bubble made from the stuff! And after thoroughly soaking it in, as much as she was able to, she rose, with a more steady, more determined, more knowing air, and walked regally to the kitchen for her breakfast. Feeling ready to face whatever would lie ahead for her today, thinking to herself, “So, this is grace?”.....
