Sometimes family is the epitome of comfort, love and meaningful existence, but sometimes they can seem the total antithesis of these important concepts. Sometimes they can seem more like your worst enemies, your most trying tests, and your most serious challenges. Sometimes they take all your grace, all your strength and all your patience and give nothing back. It is on those days when you must cry out to God for strength and let Him grow His life in you.

Family is the place where His concepts and His character are solidified in our lives. If that doesn't work then He will use other groups, but He prefers to use family. He created family first, socially speaking, and He will always do what He can through family before pulling in other forces.

So the next time your family seems to be intent on driving you to the nut house, stop and consider what character trait God may be firming up in you. I bet you will find it. And then you can have one more thing to be grateful to God for, concerning your wonderful - or not so wonderful - family. And while we are working out all these family dynamics, it pays to keep in mind that when "iron sharpens iron" it is absolutely normal for sparks to fly! Just be sure to steer clear of flammable materials!
