Note To "Self"

Note to “SELF”

Which “self” am I experiencing today? My Spirit-Woman, which feelings cannot sway?

Or that Fleshly one, whom I've come to despise, who views the world through feeling-filtered eyes?

Feelings, whirlwinds of both Joys and Frights, are, as I've noted, mere “Check Engine Lights”!

They do not run the thing, they only show, where things are out of function, so we know.

So to the great mechanic we would run, to let Him, the expert, discern what should be done.

It could just be a fuse that's acting up, or the whole motor could be tending toward corrupt!

Our wild, relentless, feelings diagnosed, by the expert in discernment, Holy Ghost;

Who'll then direct us to the only ONE, to “fix” this broken vessel, God's dear Son.

He's had the parts in stock since time began. He paid for them, redeeming every man.

And He's the One to get our lives in line, to “check” those feelings, with His Grace, Divine.

My feelings do not get to run the show, They merely indicate, sometimes, the flow,

They should be used to make me run to Him, who brings light to the shadows caused by sin.

So when the storms stir up those mighty winds, take a word of sound advice my friends,

Run quickly to His masterful garage, and let His mechanics clear up your mirage!

Then get back on the path designed for you, filled with His Grace and Power to see you through.

The drive will be much sweeter every day, when we see our feelings filtered through His Way.

When, with Joy and Peace, we're able to contend, with storms that try to stir unfriendly wind.

With patience we'll continue in this race, as we determine just to seek His face.

We'll be so glad to triumph over sin, we'll be amazed that feelings did not win!

We'll be relieved of fleshly engine-wreckers, in the presence of our Mighty feeling-checkers!

Then HOME at last, having stayed afloat, our main mechanic always in the boat,

we'll see the crowns of overcoming sweet, and lay each one, so gladly, at His feet!

He'll join us at the finish line at last, when grief and storms and misery are past,

And on that day we'll sparkle in The Son, as we hear His Father say to us, “Well Done!”

If only we will seek Him, in full trust, and take our feelings to Him when we must;

If only we would practice what we've heard, and what we know to be True, in His Word,

Then our joy and peace will not be turned to rust as we let our feelings lay us in the dust!

With redeemed feelings we can live every day, in Peace and Joy, just seeing things His way!

So today I write a little note to self: Remember that “The Manual”'s on the shelf!

Go get it! Quick, look up what's going on! Then to the Great Mechanic swiftly run!

These feelings, though strong, needn't wreck your day, you've access to The Truth, The Life, The Way!

Take advantage of this access! Really! Run! Go get that storm-cloud put down by the Son!

Then revel in the Rest that He provides, when we truly let His Spirit be our guide!

Another Shabbat comes to bring His peace, to allow our striving, self-bent work to cease.

To let our feelings come under His Grace, as we set ourselves to seek His loving Face!

As we gather with our loved ones in our homes, May we truly feel the Joy of His Shalom!

Shabbat Shalom Haverim,
