Pure Desire vs Sinful Lust; What's the Difference?
Pure Desire is motivated by love for another, while lust is driven by selfishness. Pure desire can lead to a physical overflow of an emotional connection, wanting intensely for the needs of your soul-mate to be met, through an intimate sharing of everything that belongs to you!
Lust, however, is about using intimacy as bait, to draw another in, so that one's perceived needs – or even a real self need - can be met. Often at the expense of the other soul involved. Lust is medication, not dedication. Lust is rooted in pride, which is a profound rejection of God's plans, means, ways and processes of meeting our real need. Lust is the main characteristic of the fallen, sinful, flesh. While a purified desire flows from a cleansed, transformed Character, whose base motivation is LOVE, not SELF.
Pure desire exalts God above self, and puts self in it's proper place under Him, which positions it for the flow of His blessing. While lust attempts to place itself above God, unfortunately, this attempt actually just puts one at odds with God, in the path of His wrath, which is actually aimed at the enemy – with whom the foolish fallen flesh is in leagues!
We have a choice. We can position ourselves IN God, in the place of ultimate safety and security, wherein we will be transformed to live a holy and blessed life, with all our pure desires for love and intimacy met, in His way and in His time. OR – We can position ourselves in the camp of the enemy, which is diametrically opposed to God, and get the trouncing we deserve for doing so!
It is true that Yeshua paid for our sin, so that we don't have to! But that only works to our benefit if we accept His gift as our own, put down our sin, and step away from it! We can not protect our sin, and receive His gift at the same time! We must CHOOSE! “Choose Life” is a command, not a suggestion, and it applies to every area of our existence. We must choose to eat food that will give life, and not enable a slow death. We must choose relationships that are not codependent flesh traps full of toxic waste! We must choose to operate even our religious preferences within the boundaries of His Word and Standards! Faith without works is dead, but works without faith is also utterly worthless!
Our God wants a relationship with us. He is our God and Creator, and therefore is over all! But He is also our Father, our Friend, and our Deliverer. He does not want fair-weather friends. He does not want faint-hearted, self-absorbed, entitlement oriented brats! He wants loyal children who serve out of a desire for Him, not out of some misplaced religious compulsion. He wants a relationship with people who also want a relationship with Him. He doesn't want automatons. He doesn't want people who are looking for some magic Santa-Genie or a mere “get-out-of-hell-free card”! He wants to be able to pour His blessing on us now. He doesn't want us existing, just hoping for “pie in the sky, in the sweet bye & bye”, that is a tragic abuse of His Grace!
Let us draw near to His all encompassing love, let us seek His Presence over His Provision, His Face over His hand, and His heart over His help! Let us seek His Spirit, which enables us to take on His Character, so that we can leave the low-life of lust driven addictions, and, dropping those chains, let us rise to His level of relationship, wherein His Blessing flows to us, and through us, bring life to all we meet, bringing all we meet to Him.
Selah and Shalom,
