Some Profound, But Little Known Realities of Pentecost.....
Though most of Christendom will be scratching their heads, thinking,"Pentecost has been over!", Tonight begins the ACTUAL feast of Pentecost - which is better known in the Jewish culture and Faith as Shavuot, The Feast of Weeks.
This Feast marks and finalizes, the seven weeks, or fifty days, which are marked as they go by in the "counting of the Omer". This also celebrates the Barley Harvest. Shavuot is celebrated seven shabbats, or fifty days from Pesach. And Pesach, or "Passover" kicks off the Feast of unleavened Bread, which all lead into this time of celebration for the Giving of the Torah at Sinai. The Book of books - which is often referred to as the Bread of Life. Appropriate, since Yeshua, who was also called The Bread of Life, and the Living Bread Yeshua, who was also the Sacrifice Lamb, had just been sacrificed, and it was testified that He had risen, and had appeared to them, commanding them to tarry there, until they were filled with power from on high!
The celebration of Pentecost as most Christians know it, however, was sort of hijacked by the early, somewhat antisemitic, progenitors of the Christian Faith. And therefore it was removed from it's significant Traditional Hebrew Commemoration as "Christianity" became a state mandated religion under Constantine. He and the men who are considered to be the "Church Fathers" of that time separated all Christian holidays from their Jewish origins - proclaiming Torah as legalism and anti-grace, "outmoded" and superfluous, having been accomplished by Christ, and therefore unnecessary to obey. Instead - to be relevant and draw more converts they substituted idolatrous holidays, such as "Easter" in place of God's ordained Feasts - justifying them by "making them seem to be about" the Death and Resurrection of our LORD. Even though God had covered that, and made a place for it in the symbolism of the Hebrew Feasts which HE personally ordained and Commanded at Pesach! Feasts which our LORD Himself observed, and taught us to observe - though in a different spirit than the Pharisees of His time.
This holiday, which we in the Church still celebrate as "Pentecost", does commemorates the act of the infilling of the Spirit - which occurred on God's time table during the celebration of Shavuot - the giving of the Torah - though now it is typically celebrated at the wrong time! I do not think it to be coincidence, that it was to the believers in Yeshua, who had gathered to celebrate Shavuot, in OBEDIENCE to Torah, out of love for the Messiah, whom they believed to be Yeshua - that this blessing came!
And I think the gifts it brought that day are best used still by sincere believers in Yeshua, who reverently obey and celebrate the Torah in Spirit and in Truth, by His power and His Spirit today!
We are told; "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world." All religious ritual is not true Faith. Not all that feigns loyalty to the Spirit is of Him. There is a false substitute of the enemy for every real entity that God made, there is a false doctrine for every truth He set forth!
Let's seek the God of Israel, read His Word, and be sure that we are following HIS Anointed ONE....and grafted into HIS Vine! The Vine of the HOUSE of ISRAEL! Yeshua the Nazarene.
Shabbat Shalom Chavarim! And Chag Sameach Shavuot!
May His Spirit Fill us Anew, and may His Torah truly be written upon our hearts!
