All We Need Is Love. But Which Kind?

Of course, there is the God kind of Love. It has always been and will always be! Though it is not fully grasped by most of humanity, and is therefore not fully lived or represented.

It is fully described in First Corinthians, chapter 13, and is definitely easier read than lived! Thankfully we are not expected to be able to come up with that all on our own! Thankfully there is an Anointing to enable us for that effort, and transform us into that kind of loving being!

However, there is another kind of “love”. It is the limited stuff we humans can come up with all on our own. This “love” changes direction with every emotional wind, since it has no real foundation outside itself. Therefore it isn't very fulfilling or dependable. In fact, it is so unstable that the number of divorces have come close to equaling the number of marriages! It has gotten so epidemic that many people just don't bother anymore. They have come to see marriage as the cause for divorce! So they just jump in and out of any bed that seems welcoming or attractive at the time.

Somehow, by and large, we have utterly missed the eternal romance created by our creator who IS love Himself. Somehow we've allowed the intimacy which God designed – which was intended to be only enjoyed by two fully committed, all-in, covenanted people (one man and one woman), who are in love with God and each other – to be replaced by a cheap, meaningless, uncommitted, lust-fest of any two human wads of flesh that want to lump themselves together! It has gone from being a Holy, Pure, monogamous, deeply significant relationship – in which we produce life together spiritually and physically - to being reduced to a temporarily, sometimes devastating, mere “thrill”. And – due to the unstable, utterly selfish nature of the flesh - it very quickly moves to “The Thrill Has Gone”!

When will tire of living like “Two ticks with no dog”! Sucking the very life from each other because we have lost touch with the source of our Love, the source of Life! When will we return to the Love of God and the God of Love that is described for us in His Word;

The Excellence of Love

1If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; ifthere is knowledge, it will be done away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

This is the kind of love that we should have for each other. And if we lived that kind of love there would be no usury, no fraudulent devastation, no lies, no unwanted offspring of which to rid ourselves! All children would be a treasure, and a reward for our faithfulness, instead of being an inconvenient reminder of our lack of morals and character!

LOVE, in the marriage union, when God is the center of those being wed, exponentially deepens our beings, our souls, and our lives, into a life expanding, life enriching, Kingdom increasing, family entity! Love is supposed to heal and produce Life! Love was never meant to merely settle sexual addictions. Love was never intended to be used as a temporary fix. It is an eternal commitment to God and our soul-mate. Love – between people who are not married is still a commitment to put that person first, to love them as our God has loved us!

Just think what the world would be like if that kind of love is how we lived! Even if it was just lived that way by those who claim to know God! I think it would settle the disputes, heal the divisions, and bring the unity to which we've been called!

The problem is that we are not signing up to be transformed! We sign up to be blessed! We sign up to get delivered! We sign up to win! To be saved from hell! But we forget that the Kingdom of God is not about this planet only! We forget that He did not show up to merely rescue us from hell! He went to some considerable trouble to redeem us – to restore us! To rid us of the fallen hateful flesh and renew us, to restore within us a heart of Holy Love! So that once again we can be made into HIS image! The image of the ONE who is the personification, the originator, the source of LOVE!

He IS Love. And if we become His children then we will be restored to that Love! Then our marriages and families and businesses and Church will thrive in the sunshine of His love!

May the God of Love hear our call, and return to us and save us from our selfish messes. May He forgive our misuse of His holiest gifts. May we be willing to be remade in His image by His Spirit, in obedience to His Word/Torah. May we leave our humanistic ideologies, and religious substitutions behind, once and for all to run after Him – our Loving, romantic God.

We need Him. We need His Love! Yes. All we need IS LOVE!

Shalom Chavarim! L'Chaim and L' Chavah!
